WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Whip and former Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, James E. Clyburn, today released the following statement in opposition to the nomination of Leslie Southwick to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The Senate is expected to vote on his nomination today.
“Leslie Southwick’s judicial record clearly indicates that he is openly hostile to the rights of minorities, women, and workers. His contemptuous support for court rulings that degrade African-Americans and shun the rights of women is shameful and injudicious.
“Southwick’s imprudent and antiquated positions lead us back to a time and place that most Americans no longer wish to live in.”
