Deschutes River Watershed Restoration

Introduction

The Bureau of Reclamation, working with the non-profit Deschutes River Conservancy (DRC), supports restoration projects in central Oregon's Deschutes River basin.

The DRC is the product of a cooperative project initiated in 1992 by the Warm Springs Tribe and Environmental Defense concentrating on cost effective solutions to water problems. A Reclamation Manager currently serves on the DRC Board of Directors, and a Reclamation Program Manager administers annual grants to the DRC and provides environmental compliance support for projects.

The DRC mission is to restore streamflows and improve water quality in the Deschutes Basin. The DRC strategy is to facilitate the efforts of landowners, local governments, watershed councils, irrigation districts, soil and water conservation districts, and other interested citizens to restore streamflows and improve water quality in the Deschutes Basin by providing technical assistance and funding for voluntary market-based projects.
