Research Project:
Soil Baseline Study: Impacts of Dispersed Vehicle Disturbances
Location: Range Management Research
Project Number: 6235-11210-006-65
Project Type:
Reimbursable
Start Date: May 29, 2008
End Date: Sep 30, 2009
Objective:
Evaluate impacts associated with BCT restationing.
Approach:
1) The area will be stratified using landsat imagery and soil/ecological site maps.
2) A grid will be overlaid and medium-resolution aerial photography will be used to classify the grid cells within each strata based on the presence or absense of linear disturbances (e.g., roads and tracks).
3) Plots will be randomly selected within strata using a GRTS-based approach.
4) The soil and ecological site on each plot will be verified, and baseline soil and vegetation data will be collected.
5) High resolution air photos will be acquired for a subset of the plots in order to determine the extent to which photo-interpretation and/or image analysis can be substituted for ground-based measurements.
