Volunteering

Volunteer Opportunities on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache

Volunteers are the heartbeat of the Forest Service. The types of work a volunteer can perform are many and varied. It is a program that has something for everyone - retirees, professionals, students, and young people, as well as service clubs and youth groups. Some volunteers work full-time for a short period of time, while others donate a few hours a day each week or contribute a one-time service. If you would like to volunteer for any of the projects listed on the linked pages below, or would like to speak with someone regarding volunteering in general, please contact us. Each of our Ranger Districts has a Volunteer Coordinator who can help get you started! In general, volunteers should be prepared with long-sleeved shirts, long pants, boots, and gloves; we will provide hard hats and other protective equipment when necessary. We appreciate your willingness to donate your time and services.

Adopt-A-Trail

The Spanish Fork Ranger District has implemented an opportunity for individuals or groups to adopt their favorite trail! This allows anybody who wishes to volunteer, to dedicate their time and effort to improving and maintaining their favorite hiking trails!

Salt Lake Ranger District

The district operates a volunteer program in partnership with the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation during June through September only. Individuals, eagle scout candidates, scout troops, businesses, and other groups may participate in primary focus areas of trail work and invasive weed pulls. Volunteers are also needed at Silver Lake Visitor Center each summer to patrol area trails, pick up trash, speak with visitors, and assist in environmental education programs. There may be opportunities for college interns throughout the year depending on field of study. Please call the district Volunteer Hotline at (801) 733-2667 and leave a message regarding your interest. Your call will be returned by the Summer Volunteer Coordinator who will discuss your interest and scheduling.

Volunteer Application

A volunteer application is required for volunteers on the National Forest. The application is available in three formats below. Once completed, please submit the form to the Volunteer Coordinator who is assisting you.
