Clyburn Announces Staff Changes

WASHINGTON, DC—House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today announced the following staff changes in the Office of the Majority Whip.

“With this seasoned and skilled team, I look forward to advancing an agenda that meets the needs of the American people—creating jobs, stimulating the economy and restoring Americans’ hopes and dreams and trust in their government.”

FLOOR OPERATIONS:

Todd Metcalf, Floor Director and Counsel— J. Todd Metcalf has been promoted to Floor Director after serving two years as Deputy Floor Director for Policy in the Office of the Majority Whip.  Prior to joining the whip staff Todd, a native of Sparta, Tennessee, served as Legislative Director to U.S. Representative William J. Jefferson (LA-02).  Before joining the staff of Congressman Jefferson, Todd served as Legislative Director and Floor Assistant to U.S. Representative Max A. Sandlin (TX-01).  Before he came to the Hill in February 2003, Todd practiced law for more than six years in Washington, DC.  Todd graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in political science, history and philosophy from the University of Tennessee in 1993. He received his legal training at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis and graduated magna cum laude in 1996.

Allie Neill, Deputy Floor Director and Senior Advisor—Allie has added Senior Advisor to her portfolio and will continue to serve as Deputy Floor Director for the Whip team.  A native of Dallas, Texas, Allie served as Director of Member Services for the Democratic Caucus under Congressman Clyburn’s Chairmanship.  Allie also served as Director of Member Services for the Caucus under the Chairmanship of Congressman Bob Menendez, and on the policy team for the Caucus under the direction of Congressman Martin Frost.  Allie graduated from St. Edwards University in Austin, TX with a focus on International Relations and business and is fluent in German and Spanish.

Michael Hacker, Deputy Floor Director for Coalitions—Michael has moved to the floor team as Deputy Floor Director for Coalitions.  He joined the Whip staff two years ago as Director of Coalitions and Senior Advisor after serving as a Director at Quinn Gillespie and Associates.  Prior to his consulting work, Michael served for six years with U.S. Representative John D. Dingell (D-MI) including as Director of Communications.  He began his professional career as a special assistant to former Democratic Whip David E. Bonior (D-MI).  Michael hails from Mount Clemens, Michigan and is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Adam Arguelles, Assistant Floor Director—Adam served as Floor Assistant during the 110th Congress.  Prior to joining the Whip staff, Adam worked under Chairman Clyburn at the House Democratic Caucus. A native of Westford, Massachusetts, Adam is a graduate of the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

POLICY:

Barvetta Singletary, Deputy Policy Director—Barvetta is joining the Office of the Majority Whip, from Clyburn’s personal office where she served for two years as Deputy Chief of Staff, focusing on appropriations.  Barvetta hails from Hemingway, SC, in Clyburn’s Congressional District.  She joined Clyburn’s office in 2000 as Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Intern. She later joined the staff, working part time while she attended college.  Barvetta is a graduate of Howard University where she holds dual degrees in both Political Science and Nursing.

Margaret Cantrell, Policy Counsel—Margaret joined the Whip Office in 2007 as a Policy Advisor after practicing law in Atlanta.  She also has been active on voter protection issues working with the Obama-Biden campaign in Virginia in 2008 and with the Democratic Party in Georgia in 2006 and South Carolina in 2004.  A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Margaret graduated from Duke University and the University of Virginia, School of Law.
