This Month in Yellowstone
Bighorn Sheep

On his way home from the park, Craig Johnson, a visual information specialist, and a large group of visitors, were waylaid by a band of hungry bighorn sheep in Gardner Canyon. About 20 sheep held up traffic Sept. 29, 2004 while they repeatedly crossed the road looking for the best forage on which to graze. Finally, they made their way up the steep canyon wall through a restricted sheep management area and disappeared from view.

A bighorn sheep crosses the road.
