Much of the work that goes into crafting laws and overseeing government operations takes place in committees.  I chose to serve on the following committees so that I could work directly on the issues that will help provide economic security for Louisville families and restore the American Dream for future generations.

The Committee on Ways and Means is the oldest in Congress and considered by many to be the most powerful because all policies regarding taxation originate here.  The committee’s jurisdiction includes health care, retirement security, tax policy, trade, and child welfare.  The committee will work closely with President Obama to rebuild America’s recessed economy, create millions of new jobs, bolster retirement security, and extend affordable healthcare to every American.

With the nation facing record deficit’s and debt, while also facing the most serious economic challenges in decades, the budget will be key to stimulating today’s recovery and building a strong foundation for future generations.  The Committee analyzes the President’s budget recommendations and reconciles it with congressional priorities to craft legislation that will chart all federal government expenditures for the subsequent year.
