Washington, Dec 16, 2006 - U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland, congratulated the Grand Valley State University Lakers for winning the 2006 NCAA Division II national football championship game on Saturday against the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats.

“Grand Valley State University’s student athletes epitomize the hard work and true sporting spirit of West Michigan,” Hoekstra said. “They have yet again brought the championship spotlight back home through their commitment to excelling both on and off of the field.”

On a personal note, Saturday’s victory ensures that Hoekstra will receive a basket of Northwest Missouri goods from U.S. Rep. Sam Graves, R-Missouri, including Kansas City’s famous Jack Stacks Barbeque sauce and rub, a large bag of Cherry Mash candies, Energizer batteries, a Northwest Missouri State University ball cap and t-shirt, and an autographed and framed photograph of Bobby the Bearcat.
