Hoekstra Statement on MSU Winning Competition to Build a Nuclear Science Facility
The U.S. Department of Energy Announced the Award on Thursday

Washington, Dec 11, 2008 - U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland, today congratulated Michigan State University on winning a Department of Energy competition to build a cutting edge nuclear science research facility.

“Michigan’s congressional delegation has worked diligently in bipartisan and bicameral manner over the past several years to bring the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams project to Michigan. It has enormous potential to strengthen statewide economic development.

“Michigan State University will help the U.S. to maintain its world leadership status in nuclear science research and create a significant number of new cutting-edge science-related jobs with the project. MSU offers a premier scientific leadership team and a history of excelling in nuclear physics.”

The Department of Energy announced that MSU had won the competition to build the facility on Thursday.
