Washington, Dec 4, 2008 - The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced that it intends to establish an outpatient clinic in Wexford County, which is expected to open in 2010.

“The men and women in the Armed Services have honorably fought for the freedoms that we enjoy,” said U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland. “Local veterans deserve access to quality health care within their communities upon completion of their service.”

The Community-Based Outpatient Clinic is designed to improve access for high-priority enrolled veterans in rural areas to primary and specialty care. It will be located in an area that will greatly reduce driving time, and is expected to serve 1,800 patients in its first year. It will employ six full-time employees. Services will include primary care and mental health specialties.

“Veterans in the Cadillac area currently travel great distances to obtain VA-sponsored medical services and often wait for a significant amount of time at overcrowded clinics,” said John P. Lamphere, Disabled American Veterans State Senior Vice Commander. “The new clinic will improve their ability to access health care in a much timelier manner.”
