Washington, Nov 15, 2004 - U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland, has been awarded the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Award for Manufacturing Excellence for his voting record in the 108th Congress.

“Supporting manufacturers is about supporting the American economy and raising living standards,” Hoekstra said. “The National Association of Manufacturers is a champion of reducing costs, increasing effectiveness and enhancing the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturers to ensure that they maintain their position of global leadership. To receive their recognition is a great honor.”

Key votes rated by NAM in the 108th Congress included those creating Association Health Plans and Flexible Spending Accounts, curbing the abuse of lawsuits in the American judicial system, providing tax relief and enacting Medicare reform. Hoekstra is also a founding member of the Congressional Manufacturing Caucus.

“Pete Hoekstra’s voting record demonstrates both his understanding of manufacturing’s critical role in the overall strength of our economy and a willingness to do what must be done to boost competitiveness, job creation and prosperity for working Americans,” said NAM President John Engler from Washington. “On behalf of all American manufacturers, I offer Congressman Hoekstra our deep gratitude for his commitment to keeping our nation’s manufacturing sector strong.”
