Underground Injection Control (UIC) -- Where You Live
The UIC program works nationwide and where you live to ensure that the underground disposal of wastes through injection wells is done safely and does not result in drinking water violations or otherwise harm public health. We specifically control underground injection wells to protect ground water that is being used or has the potential to be used for drinking water. The work we do in Region 5 to help our agency carry out its responsibilities under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) covers underground injection activity in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, and all tribal lands within these states.
