Site Updates

2008 Update

EPA, in consultation with Indiana Department of Environmental Management, is reviewing the Conrail Railyard Superfund site to ensure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. The Superfund law requires reviews at least every five years at sites where the cleanup is complete but waste remains managed on-site.

EPA will evaluate the ground water treatment system, residential vapor extraction systems, ground water and vapor monitoring information, results of periodic inspections, and other site documents. Should we find any areas of potential concern, we will work with the companies responsible for the cleanup to fix them. EPA plans to issue a report on the five-year review by July 2009. This is the third five-year review for this site.

EPA encourages public comment. Written comments should be postmarked no later than November 15, 2008.
