Energy The cost of gas at the pump and home heating costs are having a severe impact on the pocketbook throughout the United States. A number of factors are contributing to soaring prices, including growing global demand, high crude oil costs and political instability in major oil-producing regions such as Iran and Nigeria. Regardless of the reasons, Congress needs to work to stabilize costs. The following documents outline some of the efforts to address the issue, including allowing for the safe exploration of America’s energy reserves, rebalancing the nation’s energy portfolio and providing incentives for research and development. Renewable sources of energy, improving energy efficiency and 21st Century technologies all have important roles to play in America’s energy future.
