Basin State Bank, Stanford, Montana, has contacted the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to report that counterfeit money orders bearing the institution's name are in circulation. The counterfeit items display the routing number 092902446, which is assigned to Basin State Bank, and are similar to authentic money orders. However, the counterfeit items have the following statement embedded within the top border: "FOR SECURITY PURPOSES THE FACE OF THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS A COLORED BACKGROUND AND MICROPRINTING IN THE BORDER." Also, the counterfeit items display two padlock symbols and the following statement centered and printed within the bottom border: "SECURITY FEATURES INCLUDED DETAILS ON BACK." Authentic money orders are printed on blue paper with black print. A security feature description is printed vertically along the right side. Copies of a counterfeit item and an authentic money order (VOID) are attached for your review. Be aware that the appearance of counterfeit items can be modified and that additional variations may be presented.
