Citizens Guaranty Bank, Richmond, Kentucky, has contacted the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to report that counterfeit cashier's checks bearing the institution's name are in circulation. The counterfeit items are reportedly associated with various scams, including Internet job offers, e-mails from unknown persons, and scam letters with postmarks from the United States, Denmark or Nigeria. The counterfeit items display the routing number 042101475, which is assigned to Citizens Guaranty Bank, and are very similar to authentic cashier's checks. Bank management reported that the MICR line is not machine-readable. To date, all counterfeit items have included the name "Vivian Johnson" as the remitter, and all have displayed serial numbers within the ranges of 131470 to 139176 or 140057 to 14150. Copies of a counterfeit item and an authentic check (VOID) are attached for your review. Be aware that the appearance of counterfeit items can be modified and that additional variations may be presented.
