Research Project: Development of Vegetable Soybeans

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to develop vegetable (Edamame) soybean varieties that can be grown (either organically or non-organically) in the South Eastern region of the U.S. for niche marketing by farmers with small acreages.

Approach:
Vegetable soybean types will be developed using conventional plant breeding technology. The breeding and selection will be done at N.C. State University experiment stations. Testing of selected soybeans with variety potential will be done at experiment stations, and on farms in North Carolina.
