Maine's Cathance River Fishway Repaired
Region 0, January 27, 2005
In November 2004, Jed Wright, Gulf of Maine Coastal Program biologist, and staff and volunteers from the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge and the Dennys River Watershed Council repaired the Marion Falls fishway on the Cathance River. The fishway provides passage for Atlantic salmon and alewife to the upper reaches of the river, a tributary of the Dennys River, one of the state-listed Atlantic salmon rivers in Down East Maine. Hancock Lumber in Yarmouth, Maine, donated materials for the repairs, which included removing debris from the fishway and building and replacing wooden baffles.
