Hoekstra Statement on April Employment Report
Department of Labor Reports Unemployment Increased to 8.9 Percent, 539,000 Jobs Lost
Washington,
May 8 -
U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland, issued the following statement after the April employment report released by the U.S. Department of Labor showed that unemployment increased to 8.9 percent and that the economy lost 539,000 jobs.
"That unemployment continues to increase demonstrates that Washington cannot continue to borrow and spend billions and billions of dollars to reverse the negative economic trends. Congress needs to achieve bipartisan solutions on how to stimulate the economy by reducing taxes on small businesses and families, as well as reduce the bureaucratic restrictions and mandates on federal dollars that flow to states and communities.
"The United States and Michigan can and will work out of the economic crisis to secure the future by working together to overcome the challenges that we currently face."
