Research Interests

  • Development and use of Brachypodium distachyon as a new model grass.
  • Genetics and molecular biology of disease resistance in wheat.
  • Improving nutritional value of crops.
  • Plant abiotic stress tolerance.

Current or Planned Experiments

  • Whole genome sequencing of Brachypodium distachyon.
  • Characterize wheat gene expression associated with disease resistance.
  • Use Brachypodium distachyon to unravel the molecular basis of rust resistance in grass crops.
  • Quantify individual and pyramided Fusarium head blight resistance QTL effects using near-isogenic lines.
  • Characterize selenium accumulation in wheat.

Laboratory Personnel

  • Zachary Blankenheim (Biological Science Technician)
