Introduction

Participants become familiar with each other and the course materials.

Participants understand how to select the appropriate learning method to improve job performance.

Participants learn the basic principles of adult learning and understand the differences in adult learning styles and how they impact training.

Participants learn the phases of the 5-D Training Process and understand how the process results in a well-designed training.

Module 1: Diagnose the Performance Problem--the 1st D

Participants learn the methods for identifying performance problems that can be addressed through training and they will apply these methods to their case studies.

Module 2: Design Training--the 2nd D

Participants learn the tasks of the design phase, including formulating learning goals and objectives, identifying target audience characteristics, and incorporating adult learning principles to meet participants’ training needs.

Module 3: Develop Training--the 3rd D

Participants learn the tasks associated with selecting training content and developing the training curriculum. Participants also learn different training activities and select appropriate activities to use in the curriculum for their case studies. Finally, participants learn the advantages and disadvantages of using various training aids in the training curriculum and activities.

Module 4: Deliver Training--4th D

Participants learn the methods for preparing an appropriate training environment and selecting appropriate trainer techniques and presentation styles to use during the delivery of their case studies.

Module 5: Determine the Difference--5th D

Participants learn the tasks of the evaluation phase (Determine the Difference) and experience the cyclical nature of the 5-D Training Process.

Appendix

The appendix contains all the handouts, training aids (except PowerPoint slides), checklists and evaluations needed for a trainer to deliver the course content.
