Montgomery Watson Harza Award Winner Announced
Dr. Thomas Moorman, Research Leader at the National Soil Tilth Laboratory, and Dr. Say Kee Ong, Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering at Iowa State University, co-supervised Angela Kolz, a graduate student. Ms. Kolz’s Master’s Degree Thesis was named the First Prize winner of the Montgomery Watson Harza Award from the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP). Dr Moorman and Dr. Ong are being recognized for their mentoring roles. Angela’s research was supported by a grant from the Iowa State Water Resources Research Institute. Her work involved the fate and behavior of tylosin in swine manure lagoon slurry. Tylosin is an antibiotic used in swine production.
“I’m especially excited for Angela. She worked really hard on this project,” said Dr. Moorman, “and I believe this is a great example of collaboration between ARS and Iowa State University that has benefited all involved.”
