ImageTotal employment on Guam is virtually unchanged in the latest quarter following several quarters of relative stability in the total count as increasing private sector jobs replace declining government jobs. In the latest quarter, modest job gains were realized in the Construction and Retail Trade sectors resulting in a net private sector increase of 600 jobs for the quarter. Over the latest one year period, private sector employment is up by 3,110 jobs with most of the increase in Construction, 2,060, and Retail Trade, 1,010. The increase in construction is largely due to typhoon recovery projects, whereas the increasein retail trade is a recovery from previously depressed levels.
