Washington, Apr 28 - Four West Michigan communities will share $11.9 million in funding included in the America Recovery and Reinvestment Act for harbor projects.

"Ensuring safe and navigable harbors greatly contributes to economic development in many West Michigan communities," said U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland. "I did not vote for the stimulus bill, but I would have supported these projects by themselves and have consistently supported the success of these economic zones."

The projects include:

$10 million to construct a permanent repair to the north and south revetments along the Kalamazoo River in Saugatuck Harbor to ensure that the channel remains open to navigation.

$255,000 for condition surveys and a dredging contract in Grand Haven Harbor, as well as $400,000 to repair damage caused by the USCGC Mackinaw.

$306,000 for condition surveys and dredging in Holland Harbor.

$950,000 for condition surveys and dredging in Ludington.
