Washington, Apr 29 - Hope College junior Stephen Hobson of Flushing, Mich., this week completed a spring 2009 internship in the Washington, D.C. office of U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland.

“I appreciate Stephen spending his spring semester supporting my staff in Washington,” Hoekstra said. “It has been a unique opportunity for him to view firsthand the legislative role of Congress in developing the policies of the United States.”

Hobson has been responsible for attending hearings and conducting research for Hoekstra’s staff. He has been engaged in learning how constituent concerns and correspondence impact policy decisions in Washington.

Hobson is in Washington as part of an honors program through Hope College. Hobson graduated from Flushing High School in 2006 and is studying for a bachelor’s degree in political science and communication at Hope College in Holland, Mich. Hobson will attend Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Va. this summer.

He is the son of Don and Tracie Hobson of Flushing.

“Working in Congressman Hoekstra’s office has provided me with a front row perspective on how the federal government responds to issues in Michigan, the nation and the world,” Hobson said. “It has been an exciting time to work in Washington and learn about how the government operates.”
