Letters of Recognition

I would be proud to recognize constituents from Michigan's Second Congressional District for achievements and contributions they have made to our communities. Examples of recognitions include the Eagle Scout Award, the Girl Scout Gold Award, School Accomplishments and Citizenship. If you know of someone who deserves to be recognized, please complete the Recognition Request Form and I would be happy to send my congratulations.

The Congressional Award

Created in Congress by Public Law 96-114 in 1979, the Congressional Award is a public-private partnership created to promote and recognize achievement, initiative and service in America's youth, ages 14-23. Each participant sets goals in four areas dependent on interest, need, and ability: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness and exploration. A young person is not selected to receive this award -- he or she earns it! The program is supported entirely by private funds, is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. For more information, please visit the "Congressional Award" Web site at www.congressionalaward.org.

The Daily Points of Light Award

The Daily Points of Light Awards are designed to honor those who have made a commitment to connect Americans through service to help meet critical needs in their communities. The program is co-sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation, the Corporation for National Service, and with full program funding provided by the Knights of Columbus. It is open to any individual, group, family, business or labor union actively engaged in volunteer service. For more information please visit the "Daily Points of Light Award" Web site at www.pointsoflight.org.

The President's Volunteer Service Award

In 2003, President Bush created the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation to find ways to recognize contributions that volunteers are making in our nation. The President's Volunteer Service Award program was created by this council as a way to thank and honor Americans who inspire others to engage in volunteer service and to encourage a lifelong habit of service. Americans of all ages -- individuals, families and groups -- are able to earn the Award by engaging in sustained volunteer service and civic participation over a one-year period. For more information please visit their Web site at www.presidentialserviceawards.gov.
