Island National Monument HistoryAdmiralty Island has a long and rich history of human occupation. Indications of Tlingit occupation go back 3000 years. The island has also seen a number of uses since Europeans arrived on the scene. Some of the stories it has to tell are: The Forest Service is responsible for preserving and protecting the monument's cultural resources. If you find an indication of former use, please leave it in place, document it with photos or drawings and mark it on a map so it can be found again. Then contact the Admiralty National Monument archeologist at 8461 Old Dairy Road in Juneau or at 907-790-7477. |
