Washington, DC (September 16, 2007) – On Thursday, Sept. 27, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will address students, teachers, and community leaders at the sixth-annual Hispanic Engineering Science and Technology Week in Edinburg, TX. The event, hosted by Congressman Rubén Hinojosa, serves as a catalyst to increase the number of Hispanics pursuing careers in science, technology engineering, and math. A press conference with Speaker Pelosi and Rep. Hinojosa will follow the morning’s address. The Speaker’s remarks also will be webcast live at www.hestec.org.
HESTEC week, which takes place Sept. 24-29 at the University of Texas-Pan American, consists of workshops, speakers, and interactive demonstrations created to encourage Hispanic students to study technological sciences and boost Hispanic enrollment and graduation rates. Last year, over 45,000 students, parents, teachers, and administrators participated in HESTEC.
