Washington, DC (June 25, 2007) – Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) announced today that the United States Department of Agriculture has approved a loan of $1,253,000 and a grant of $421,000 to be used to provide adequate water supply to the colonia known as Loma Linda. The proposed improvements to the water system will consist of a water transmission line tied to one of San Diego’s Municipal Utility District’s primary north-south water line. The interior distribution system will consist of lines with valves, fire hydrants, and house connections. An upgraded chlorination system and injection port will be installed at the existing city water well site to provide a disinfection system.
“Everyday the people of Loma Linda struggle in unacceptable living conditions that lack a decent supply of clean water,” said Hinojosa. “This grant will go a long way toward improving the quality of life in this colonia and ensure a better standard of living for all its residents.”
San Diego Municipal Utility District #1 is located in San Diego, Duval County; the project will serve the community of Loma Linda which is located in Jim Wells County with 64 connections.
