Washington, DC (May 15, 2006) – Today, Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $153,033 to the Weslaco Housing Authority and $94,858 to the Alamo Housing Authority.
The Weslaco Housing Authority will use the funds toward 67 housing choice vouchers for relocation assistance. The assistance is provided for families in Sevilla Apartments, a public housing development that is scheduled for demolition in connection with the HUD-approved demolition/disposition plan.
The Alamo Housing Authority has been awarded 38 housing choice vouchers for relocation assistance. The assistance is provided for families in Poinsettia I and II, public housing developments that are scheduled for demolition in connection with the HUD-approved demolition/disposition plan.
“Providing all Americans with affordable and adequate housing must be a priority,” said Hinojosa. “These communities simply do not have the resources – either economically or infrastructure – to go it alone. The federal government must continue investing in our communities and in our families.”
These grants are part of HUD’s plan to meet local needs and expand opportunities for American families.
