Information on Swine Influenza

Washington  - On April 26, 2009 the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) issued a nationwide public health emergency declaration due to discovery of a new swine influenza A virus. They have stated that it is standard procedure to put forth basic safety measures for Americans to take in order to prevent further spread of this illness.

Swine influenza is a respiratory disease generally found in pigs.  However, it is possible for the virus to spread to humans.  The U.S., Mexico and Canada all have confirmed cases of this flu and the numbers are predicted to rise.  DHHS is working with organizations across the country in response and will continue to make announcements.
