Allen T. Hjelmfelt, Jr., retired ARS Research Hydraulic Engineer, received the 2008 Arid Lands Hydraulic Engineering Award from the Environmental Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Dr. Hjelmfelt accepted the plaque, certificate, and cash award at the EWRI Annual Congress in Honolulu, Hawaii, on May 14. The citation reads: “For his many contributions to the fields of hydraulics and hydrology over his long career. His numerous papers contribute to the understanding of the rainfall-runoff process and provide important tools that can be used in quantitative analysis.” Dr. Hjelmfelt retired in 2002 from the Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research Unit in Columbia Missouri.
