Dr. Kitchen's research interests include development of alternative crop production systems that improve surface and ground water quality, including development of precision agriculture strategies for increased nutrient-use efficiency.

Dr. Kitchen also serves as Coordinating Committee Chair Missouri Precision Agriculture Center (MPAC)*.
