Homeland Security
The U.S. Coast Guard has been performing the mission of Homeland Security since its inception more than 200 years ago. Since 1790, it has adapted its operations to meet the needs of the nation. In 2002, the Coast Guard became a lead agency in the new U.S. Department of Homeland Security, furthering its role as America's shield of freedom and expanding career opportunities for those who serve.
The Academy is proud to be at the forefront of Homeland Security education and training through its academic courses and training programs. To learn more about these courses, select Homeland Security Courses from the Section Links at right.
Two stellar examples of where a Coast Guard career can take you within the Department of Homeland Security are Admiral James M. Loy (USCG-Ret.) and Vice Admiral Thad W. Allen.
