8th District Congressman Announces More than $400,000 in Federal Funds for St. Luke’s Renovation and Modernization

(Doylestown, PA) – Today, at a press conference in Quakertown, Pennsylvania Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8th District) announced new federal funds for St. Luke’s Hospital. Rep. Murphy stood with Ed Nawrocki, the President of St. Luke’s, two St. Luke’s board members and the clinical coordinator of St. Luke’s Medical/Surgical Care Unit. The funds Murphy secured – $406,767 – were passed by the House and Senate last year and signed into law by the president on December 26, 2007. The money will be used to replace patient care beds that are over 15 years old and upgrade medical-surgical patient care rooms. These upgrades will allow the hospital to utilize new medical technology and allow for the maximum comfort and care for their patients. St. Luke’s services the economic hub of Quakertown and the surrounding rural areas. It also provides critical care to uninsured children of low-income families.

“St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital has a reputation of taking care of Upper Bucks County and I am proud to have secured this funding to help continue modernizing their hospital,” said Congressman Patrick Murphy. “The doctors, nurses and administrators put their patients first and I join them as they fight to provide health care to those who need it. Our community is growing and we need to continue to support this rapidly expanding hospital.”

“As the Upper Bucks community continues to grow and prosper, it’s critical that local institutions like St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital keep pace through expansions, renovations and technology upgrades,” explained hospital President Ed Nawrocki. “Congressman Murphy fought through a difficult process to keep our requests in this bill and for that we are all grateful.”
