Keys to Scale Insects

This site contains three tools used to identify Scale Insects. They are “Scale Families”, “Mealybugs”, and “Soft Scales”. An additonal tool named “Other Scales” is currently under development and should be released in December of 2006. Click on the “Scale Insects” image on this page to go to the “Home” page from which you will be able to access each of the tools. It also provides some general information on getting started and list and whether or not your computer meets the minimum requirements to run the Lucid 3 Keys. The Lucid keys require that you have Java Runtime Environment (JRE) - Java version 1.4.2, or greater installed on your computer. Clicking on the Check for Java from the menu will take you to the page that describes how to check for Java, and how to acquire and install it if necessary. It will also indicate which web browsers should work the best.

The Lucid Keys are both Windows and Macintosh compatible. We trust that you will find these tools informative and helpful in the identification of scale species of quarantine importance.
