The brass pole, sign, and US flag mark the exact location of 90 degrees South. The Elevated Station, the new NSB-approved South Pole Station is in the background. It was dedicated in January 2008. Each year U.S. Geological Survey personnel recalculate the position of the South Pole and move the pole marker, seen in this picture.
