8th District Congressman Brings Experts Together to Help Families and Businesses Harness Renewable Energy to Protect Our Environment and Stimulate the Economy

(Bristol, PA) – In order to give families and businesses some helpful tips on how to make their homes and businesses more energy efficient, Pennsylvania Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8th District) organized a “Going Green” Congress on Your Corner last weekend. Rep. Murphy was joined by local government officials and environmental advocates who shared success stories, tips and the benefits of using renewable energy in homes and businesses. Murphy regularly holds “Congress on Your Corner” events at different locations throughout the 8th District. These meetings are one of the ways for residents to talk to Murphy one-on-one or speak with caseworkers for critical help on a variety of issues. Congress on Your Corner events have been held at neighborhood locations such as libraries, supermarkets and senior centers. The “Going Green” Congress on Your Corner was held at the Lower Makefield Township Municipal Building and was attended by dozens of families and business owners as well as local experts. They included Jim Bray of the Lower Makefield Township Environmental Advisory Committee and Brendan Stuart of Penn Environment.

“With families facing record gas prices, its no secret that we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil – that’s where going green can help,” said Congressman Patrick Murphy. “We need a change and that’s why I am very proud that Bucks County is becoming a green energy hub and leading the way for America with advances in wind and solar energy as well as alternative fuels. I am committed to this initiative because I believe we can innovate our way to energy independence and create the green collar jobs of the future in the process.”

“I want to thank Congressman Murphy for coming to Lower Makefield to highlight our local environmental initiatives and talk about why it is so important that we harness renewable energy. The ‘Going Green’ Congress on Your Corner provided an excellent platform to talk to our citizens about how we can all take steps to become more green and save some money,” said Jim Bray, Chair Lower Makefield Environmental Advisory Council.

Most people know that “Going Green” can save money and help protect our environment. What many people don’t know is that assistance is available through agencies and programs at the federal, state and local level. At the “Going Green” Congress on Your Corner, people were able to learn about common sense steps toward energy efficiency, tax incentives for creating green homes and businesses and legislation promoting green buildings and renewable energy.
