Scalise: $100,000 for Hammond Organization to Combat Youth Drug Abuse

Monday, July 28, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) has awarded a $100,000 continuation grant to the Coalition for a Better Tomorrow in Hammond.

“Keeping our children off drugs is a community wide effort,” Scalise said. “The Coalition for a Better Tomorrow and Quad Area do an excellent job reducing youth substance abuse and this funding will help them maintain their high standard of preventing drug use by children.”

This funding is part of ONDCP’s Drug-Free Communities Continuation Grants program. Organizations who receive these grants must show the ability to facilitate citizen participation in local drug prevention efforts. In addition, each community that receives this grant is required to provide an equal match for every federal dollar. Coalition for a Better Tomorrow has met the required criteria to continue to receive this grant for fiscal year 2008.

The Coalition for a Better Tomorrow is part of the Quad Area Community Action Agency, which provides low income citizens with services such as education, training advocacy and recreation.
