Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is awarding a $36,846 grant to the St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District #10 in Sun.

“This funding will help the St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District #10 obtain the necessary resources to protect our communities,” Scalise said. “Our fire fighters are always on call and it is important that they are always properly equipped for an emergency.”

The St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District #10 will receive the grant through the Operation and Safety Program as part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. Eligible activities to use the funding are training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.

In Fiscal Year 2008, the AFG Program will award approximately $500 million directly to fire departments and EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards. This is Round 24 of AFG grant announcements.

Since 2004, with the Fiscal Year 2008 awards, AFG has provided a total of almost $2.75 billion to first-responder organizations to purchase response equipment, personal protective equipment, and vehicles.
