Scalise Gets Energy and Commerce Subcommittee Assignments

Scalise joins Energy and Commerce and Trade Subcommittees

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that he has received his subcommittee assignments on the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee. Scalise will serve on the Subcommittee on Energy and Environment, as well as the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection.
 
           “These two subcommittees have jurisdiction over issues that are very important to Southeast Louisiana’s economy,” Scalise said. “Many bills that will be coming through Congress will start in these subcommittees. I am honored to join both of these active subcommittees so I can make sure Louisiana has a strong voice in shaping our nation’s energy policy, as well as other issues important to our state and nation.”

“We need Congressman Scalise’s experience and knowledge on these subcommittees,” Ranking Member Joe Barton (R-TX) said. “He brings a common-sense approach to solving problems and comes from the state that produces 80 percent of our nation’s offshore oil and natural gas.”

The Subcommittee on Energy and Environment has jurisdiction of the following issues.

• National energy policy
• Fossil energy, renewable energy sources and synthetic fuels; energy conservation
• Nuclear energy and waste
• Utility issues and regulation of nuclear facilities,
• Safe drinking water
• Clean air

The Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection has jurisdiction of the following issues.

• Interstate and foreign commerce, including all trade matters
• Regulation of commercial practices including sports-related matters
• Consumer affairs and protection
• Regulation of travel, tourism, and time
• Homeland security related aspects like cyber security
