A Closer Look

Party Congressional Campaign Committee Fundraising Through August 31, 2006

We've seen the reporting of overall fundraising and cash-on-hand balances for the national party committees from reports filed on September 20. (For example, you can see a quick summary for the DCCC here and for the NRCC here) With electronic filing we can also do more to get an understanding of the sources of receipts pretty quickly after filings are received. For example, we've compiled a table breaking down contributions to the two House campaign committees from individuals by size of contribution for the period from January 1, 2005 through August 31, 2006. The table also compares these totals with the same time period in 2004.

We've also compiled a similar table for the DNC and RNC. (We aren't able to look at the most recent filings from the Senatorial campaign committees yet because they don't file electronically.)

Another major source of support for the House campaign committees has been money transfered from members of Congress. There is no limit on the amount that can be transfered from campaign committees to party committees, and these lists show that the DCCC has received more than $20 million so far from members with the NRCC trailing slightly with nearly $18.5 million
