Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park
Things To Know Before You Come

•Visitors to the park should keep in mind that we are the second largest military park in the world. Therefore the park is spread over a large area. The park driving tour covers nearly 60 miles. The tour takes you through four different battlefields and to four historic structures. Needless to say plan your time accordingly. The park staff is one site 7 days a week to help you plan your visit and maximize what you see with your time. (Also see our things to do section to help plan your visit.)

•When taking in walking tours during the summer feel free to take bottled water with you. Many of the tours pass through open fields, and the heat and humidity of the summer in Virginia can be dangerous at times.

•Keep in mind there are two visitor center's in Fredericksburg. One visitors center is our Battlefield Visitor Center located on Lafayette Blvd. The Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center focuses on the four battlefields and buildings the National Park service administers. Though we do have some information on sites in the city.

The other visitor center is the City of Fredericksburg Visitor Center. The City Visitor Center has more information on the city as well as sites around the area, and a trolley tour of the town. The center is located on Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg.

•Our operating hours vary season to season. Be sure to check out our Operating Hours & Seasons link to assure what you want to see in thepark will be open during your visit.

•Our busiest time of the year is from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
