The Fish Protection at Water Diversions manual is dedicated to the memory of Perry L. Johnson, who passed away December 23, 2005, after a short illness. Perry dedicated much of his professional life to improving conditions for fish in western waters affected by hydraulic development. He performed ground-breaking studies for Reclamation on issues of dissolved gas in reservoirs and reservoir releases, selective withdrawal structures and curtains for water temperature control, and fish screening and passage. His 1975 report, Prediction of Dissolved Gas at Hydraulic Structures, is still a widely referenced milestone in the field. He was a great friend to all of us, and is sorely missed.
