Welcome to the Office of Nuclear Safety, Quality Assurance and Environment

Our mission for nuclear safety, quality assurance, and environment is to: establish and maintain policies, requirements and expectations for the Department to ensure protection of workers, the public and the environment from the hazards associated with nuclear operations; serve as a corporate policy, and provide coordination and integration; and, finally, provide high-quality, customer-oriented technical assistance that enables improved program and field implementation.

  • Nuclear Safety
    Provides rule makings for 10 CFR 830, Nuclear Safety Management, clarification of requirements, readiness reviews, maintenance of necessary technical standards, guidance for nuclear facility maintenance activities, criticality safety, and nuclear facility training.
  • Quality Assurance
    Includes policies and directives, software quality assurance, a library and training, criteria review and approach documents, newsletters and bulletins, and contacts.
  • Environment
    Contains environmental policy and guidance documents, environmental reports, environmental management systems, sustainability practices, radiation protection, environmental compliance, environmental training, and assistance tools.
