Reclamation’s NKAO demonstration at the 2008 Children’s Groundwater Festival was titled “Water Jelly Crystals” and demonstrated the water conserving aspect of polymers. However, anybody entering the room after the first 10 minutes would have more closely identified the demonstration with “J-E-L-L-O…It’s alive!” On May 13th over 1000 students from 31 Nebraska towns converged at the Nebraska Children’s Groundwater Festival. From Larsen Christian School with 4 students attending to Grand Island Wasmer with 110 kids in attendance they all brought curiosity and enthusiasm to the event. The festival, celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2008, has been replicated in 41 states as well as other countries. Adding to the success of the Grand Island event have been nearly 100 presenters with specialized expertise, 150 dedicated volunteers, and the 4th and 5th grade educators who understand the importance of groundwater education. |
