Nuclear Safety

Welcome to our Nuclear Safety Web site. We develop DOE-wide nuclear safety policies and assist the DOE site offices and their contractors in carrying out these policies to protect the public and the DOE community. We strive to utilize input from all sources in tailoring our policies and providing assistance to help DOE achieve its nuclear safety mission.

  • DOE Rules
    Develops rule makings for 10 CFR Part 830, Nuclear Safety Management
  • Nuclear Policy Interpretations
    Provides clarification for specific applications of the requirements in DOE orders, rules, and other directives
  • Readiness Review
    Keeps the Operational Readiness and Readiness Review communities abreast of the latest related news, issues, and events
  • Technical Standards Program
    Promotes the use of voluntary consensus standards at DOE, DOE's efforts to develop and maintain necessary technical standards, and Communicates information on technical standards activities to DOE
  • Training Policy
    Develops training rules, Orders, technical standards, and handbooks related to the selection, qualification, and training of nuclear facility personnel
  • Criticality Safety
    Establishes and maintains the DOE requirements for nuclear criticality safety
