(WASHINGTON) – On Thursday, June 19th, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, will testify before the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management for a public hearing entitled, “Moving Mississippi Forward: Ongoing Progress and Remaining Problems”. This hearing will examine the ongoing housing problems in post-Katrina Mississippi. Details are below.

Chairman Thompson released the following statement in preparation of his testimony:

“Nearly three years after Katrina, we still have close to 300 families living in hotels and motels and over 5,000 more living in temporary housing units. It’s my intention to make it clear to FEMA and other related agencies that I expect this to be priority number one,” said Thompson. “The priorities of the people of Mississippi should be reflected in the actions of the state’s elected leadership.”
