Thompson to Lead CODEL to Southwest Border

(WASHINGTON) – Today, April 3rd, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, will lead a Congressional Delegation with other members of the House Committee on Homeland Security to the Southwest Border region. The members will visit El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico to get a firsthand look at efforts to secure the border and combat violence.

Chairman Thompson released the following statement in advance of the visit:

“This visit provides Members of the Homeland Security Committee an opportunity to see how the new Southwest Border Security Initiative will be implemented and how best to deal with the escalating violence in the U.S-Mexico border region. Members will get a firsthand look at the efforts of officials on both sides of the border to combat this problem.

Working with our Mexican counterparts and strengthening law enforcement’s capacity to combat the violence is critical to both nations.”
