The Honorable A. J. Eggenberger
Chairman
Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board
625 Indiana Avenue, NW, Suite 700
Washington, DC 20004-2901
Dear Mr. Chairman:
This is to inform you that the Savannah River (SR) Operations Office has completed its final commitment associated with the Implementation Plan (IP) for Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board Recommendation 2000-1, Prioritization for Stabilizing Nuclear Materials. Commitment 220, “Complete stabilization of pre-existing Np-237 solution”, consisted of the stabilization of the pre-existing neptunium solutions that were stored in H-Canyon by converting them into a more stable oxide form in the HB-Line facility, packaging them into shipping containers for shipment to the Idaho National Laboratory.
This commitment was completed more than three months ahead of schedule, and was the last of 54 Savannah River Site commitments in the Department’s IP responding to Recommendation 2000-1.
I am extremely proud of our team’s hard work and dedication in completing the commitments at SR. If you have any comments or feedback, please call me on (202) 586-0738, or Mr. Dae Y. Chung, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Safety Management and Operations, on (202) 586-5151.
Sincerely,
Dr.
Inés R. Triay
